Taxonomy
Choerolophodon chioticus was named by Tobien (1980). Its type specimen is AMPG-937, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Michalos, which is in a Miocene terrestrial horizon in Greece.

Konidaris et al. 2016Choerolophodont with moderate elongation of the cranium, steeply inclined facial region and high cerebral region; orbits situated low in the cranium and above the last molar in function; the anterior zygomatic process is situated anterior of the choanae at the level of the tooth row; convergent temporal lines and narrow parietal region; the mandibular symphysis is deflected downwards; ramus and corpus are almost vertical; upper tusks emerge downwards; molars with weakly to moderate expressed choerodonty, ptychodonty and cementodonty
