Taxonomy
Xiphosphaera was named by Haeckel (1882) [1b. Tribe: Xiphostylida. Monosphaeria with two spines (two opposite spines, situated in one axis). A. With spines free, not joined by a ring. AI. With both spines equal, similar in form and size. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]. It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Haeckel (1882).

It was assigned to Pantanelliidae by Haeckel (1882).
