Mesolongicapitis peii was named by Chen et al. (2019). Its type specimen is NIGP-000013, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Burmese amber, Kachin amber (NIGP collection), which is in a Cenomanian terrestrial amber in Myanmar.
