Taxonomy
Bombus pristinus was named by Unger (1867). Its type specimen is GBA 1867/004/0004, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Kumi, which is in a Burdigalian lacustrine - large limestone in Greece.
It was recombined as Bombus (Cullumanobombus) pristinus by Dehon et al. (2019).
