Unuchinia was named by Simpson (1937). It is not extant. Its type is Apator asaphes.

It was assigned to Unuchiniinae by Van Valen (1967), Gunnell (1988); and to Apatemyidae by Simpson (1937), Gunnell (1989), McKenna and Bell (1997).
