It was corrected as Spercheinae by Lawrence and Newton (1995) and Bouchard et al. (2011); it was reranked as the family Spercheidae by Crowson (1981), Short and Fikáček (2013) and Cai et al. (2022).
It was assigned to Hydrophilidae by Lawrence and Newton (1995) and Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Hydrophiloidea by Crowson (1981), Short and Fikáček (2013) and Cai et al. (2022).
