Taxonomy
Zanycteris was named by Matthew (1917). It is not extant. Its type is Zanycteris paleocenus.

It was assigned to Phyllostomidae by Hay (1930); and to Picrodontidae by Matthew (1917), Gunnell (1989), McKenna and Bell (1997), Scott and Fox (2005), Burger (2013).
