Taxonomy
Salteria primaeva was named by Wyville Thomson (1864). Its type specimen is IGS GSM 35714 (lectotype), a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

Synonyms
  • Salteria americana was named by Cooper (1953) [Paratypes: USNM 116438a, b, d.]. Its type specimen is USNM 116438c, an exoskeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Salteria primaeva by Tripp (1980).
