Monosaulax was named by Stirton (1935). It is not extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Eucastor by Stout in Skinner and Taylor (1967), Xu (1994), Schiebout and Ting (2000).
It was assigned to Castoridae by Stirton (1935), McKenna and Bell (1997), Evander (1999), Korth (1999), Korth (2002); and to Castoroidini by Korth (2008).
