It was reranked as the family Florentiamyidae by Wahlert (1983), Korth et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Geomyidae by Rensberger (1973); to Geomyoidea by Wahlert (1983), Carroll (1988); and to Rodentia by Korth et al. (2022).
