Platycyathus eburnensis was named by Barta-Calmus (1969). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Falaises de Fresco, region CD (Kraïébouèn), which is in a Ypresian marine sandstone in the Falaises de Fresco Formation of Cote D'Ivoire.
