Taxonomy
Monoculus polyphemus was named by Linneaus (1758). It is extant. It is the type species of Limulus.

It was recombined as Limulus polyphemus by Størmer (1955), Dunlop et al. (2012), Lamsdell (2020) and Bicknell et al. (2021).
