Taxonomy

Neoreomys was named by Ameghino (1887). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Capromyidae by Fields (1957); to Dasyproctidae by McKenna and Bell (1997), Kramarz (2006) and Kramarz et al. (2010); and to Cavioidea by Vizcaíno et al. (2022).

Neoreomys (Pseudoneoreomys) was named by Ameghino (1891).

It was assigned to Neoreomys by Ameghino (1891); and to Hystricomorpha by Ameghino (1894).
