Taxonomy
Mesotipula (Mesotipula) sigmoidea was named by Lukashevich (2009). Its type specimen is PIN 4270/2096, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Shar-Teg, outcrop 423/6 (PIN collection 4270), which is in a Tithonian lacustrine - large claystone in the Sharteg Formation of Mongolia.
It was recombined as Mesotipula (Irenatipula) sigmoidea by Kopeć et al. (2020).
