Taxonomy
Cardium emarginatum was named by Deshayes (1829). It is not extant. Its type locality is Valmondois (Deshayes collection), which is in a Bartonian carbonate horizon in France. It is the type species of Byssocardium.
It was recombined as Byssocardium emarginatum by Munier-Chalmas (1882), Schneider (1998).
