Eotitanops was named by Osborn (1907). It is not extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeosyops by Wallace (1980).
It was assigned to Titanotheriidae by Scott (1913); to Brontotheridae by Osborn (1907), Dehm and Oettingen-Spielberg (1958), West (1980), Carroll (1988), Prothero and Schoch (1989), Mader (1989), Mader (1998) and Thewissen et al. (2001); to Eotitanopinae by Osborn (1914), Mihlbachler (2008) and Mader (2010); and to Brontotheriidae by Thewissen et al. (1987) and Missiaen et al. (2011).
