Gaindatherium was named by Colbert (1934). It is not extant. Its type is Gaindatherium browni.
It was assigned to Rhinocerotidae by Carroll (1988); to Rhinocerotinae by Tong (2001); and to Rhinocerotina by Prothero and Schoch (1989), Antoine et al. (2010) and Khan et al. (2014).
