Rhizophascolonus ngangaba was named by Brewer et al. (2018). Its type specimen is QM F23772, a tooth (left M1), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Camel Sputum Site, which is in a Burdigalian terrestrial carbonate in Australia.
