Embolemopsis maryannae was named by Olmi et al. (2021). Its type specimen is NHMUK 28344, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Wealden amber, Chilton Chine, Isle of Wight (NHMUK collection), which is in a Barremian terrestrial amber in the United Kingdom.
