Glyptodon
Taxonomy
Glyptodon was named by Owen (1839). It is not extant. Its type is Glyptodon clavipes. It is the type genus of Glyptodontoidea.
It was synonymized subjectively with Pampatherium by Cartelle and Bohorquez (1984).
It was assigned to Glyptodontini by McKenna and Bell (1997), Fernicola (2008), Rincón et al. (2008); to Glyptodontidae by Ameghino (1889), Cope (1889), Lydekker (1894), Ameghino (1902), Hay (1902), Brown (1912), Rovereto (1914), Hay (1930), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Carroll (1988), Salles et al. (2006), Luna and Krapovickas (2011); and to Glyptodontinae by Hoffstetter (1958), Zurita et al. (2004), Soibelzon et al. (2010), Zurita et al. (2018).
