Taxonomy
Melikertes clypeatus was named by Engel (2001). Its type specimen is B-JH 77 (AMNH, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. It is the type species of Amelikertotes.

It was recombined as Amelikertotes clypeata by Engel (2021).
