Caulautaires was named by Abeille de Perrin (1890). It is extant. Its type is Colotes.

It was reranked as the subtribe Colotina by Gimmel et al. (2019); it was corrected as Colotini by Tihelka et al. (2021).

It was assigned to Malachiini by Gimmel et al. (2019); and to Malachiinae by Tihelka et al. (2021).
