Taxonomy
Absarokius australis was named by Bown and Rose (1987). Its type specimen is AMNH 55152, a mandible (right mandibular fragment with p3-m3 and root for canine), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Huerfano III, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Huerfano Formation of Colorado.
It was recombined as Artimonius australis by Muldoon and Gunnell (2002).
