Aybelodon hondurensis
Taxonomy
Aybelodon hondurensis was named by Frick (1933) [genotype]. Its type specimen is F:AM 27075 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tepusuna Hill, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Gracias Formation of Honduras. It is the type species of Aybelodon.
It was recombined as Gomphotherium hondurense by Tobien (1972); it was synonymized subjectively with Gomphotherium blicki by Tobien (1973); it was synonymized subjectively with Rhynchotherium blicki by Webb and Tessman (1968) and Webb and Perrigo (1984).
