It was synonymized subjectively with Dysmorphoptilidae by Shcherbakov (1984), Lambkin (2016); it was reranked as the subfamily Eoscarterellinae by Szwedo and Huang (2019), Fu et al. (2021), Nel et al. (2022).
It was assigned to Prosboloidea by Lara and Wang (2016); to Dysmorphoptiloidea by Hamilton (1992), Szwedo (2018); and to Dysmorphoptilidae by Szwedo and Huang (2019), Fu et al. (2021), Nel et al. (2022).
