Taxonomy
Hyphydrus decoratus was named by Gyllenhal (1810). It is extant. It is the type species of Clemnius, Clemnius (Clemnius).

It was recombined as Hygrotus decoratus by Green et al. (2006); it was recombined as Clemnius (Clemnius) decoratus by Villastrigo et al. (2017).
