Dytiscus impressopunctatus was named by Schaller (1783). It is extant. It is the type species of Hygrotus (Leptolambus).
It was recombined as Hygrotus impressopunctatus by Coope et al. (1961); it was recombined as Hygrotus (Leptolambus) impressopunctatus by Villastrigo et al. (2017).
