Pricyclopyge was named by Richter and Richter (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Llde-l Sepkoski's reference number: 378,1075].

It was assigned to Pricyclopyginae by Hoel (1999); to Cyclopygidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002).
