Taxonomy
Felis bituminosa was named by Merriam and Stock (1932). Its type specimen is LACM X8628, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Felis concolor by Kurtén (1976), Kurten and Anderson (1980); it was synonymized subjectively with Puma concolor by Ewer (1973), Hulbert (1992), Morgan and Seymour (1997).
