Taxonomy
Piauhytherium capivarae was named by Guérin and Faure (2013). Its type specimen is Crâne complet n°188265 de la Lagoa dos Porcos à São Lourenço do Piauí, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Piauhytherium.
