Macrotaeniopteris crassinervis was named by Feistmantel (1877). It is not extant. Its type locality is Mandro, Rajmahal Hills, which is in a Jurassic fluvial horizon in the Rajmahal Formation of India.
It was recombined as Taeniopteris crassinervis by Gupta (1986), Chandra and Tewari (1991).
