Leptarctus ancipidens

Taxonomy
Mephititaxus ancipidens was named by White (1941) [genotype; type locality is Thomas Farm]. Its type specimen is MCZ. 3658, a maxilla (right and left [upper] P2-M1), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Leptarctus ancipidens by Olsen (1957), Wagner and Reynolds (1983), Lim and Miao (2000), Korth and Baskin (2009), Baskin (2017).

White 1941P2+3 double-rooted with simple, more or less conical crowns; P4 with subequal, conical protocone and hypocone; protocone slightly in advance of paracone; hypocone opposite posterior half of paracone; parastyle distinct; Ml slightly wider than long; a well developed antero-internal cingulum; a small metaconule probably present; anterior width of tooth greater than posterior; otherwise tooth as in Mephitis.
