Trilophodon (Tetrabelodon) shepardi edensis was named by Frick (1921) [actually named as T. shepardi edensis]. Its type specimen is UCMP 23501 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Rhynchotherium (Dibelodon) edensis by Frick (1926); it was recombined as Rhynchotherium edensis by Frick (1933), Webb and Perrigo (1984); it was recombined as Cordillerion edensis by Osborn (1942); it was recombined as Cuvieronius edensis by Downs (1952), May and Repenning (1982); it was recombined as Rhynchotherium edense by Webb (1973); it was synonymized subjectively with Rhynchotherium falconeri by Miller (1990), Shoshani and Tassy (1996); it was synonymized subjectively with Rhynchotherium blicki by Lambert and Shoshani (1998).
