Taxonomy
Gynoplistia fouldensensis was named by Nel and Kaulfuss (2024). Its type specimen is OU46615, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Foulden maar (I43/f8503), which is in an Aquitanian crater lake diatomite in the Foulden Hills Diatomite Formation of New Zealand.
