Taxonomy
Camponotus obesus was named by Piton (1935). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Joursac (Marty coll), which is in a Tortonian crater lake mudstone in France.
It was recombined as Camponotites obesus by Boudinot et al. (2024).
