It was corrected as Nemorhaedus by Hodgson (1841); it was corrected as Nemorhoedus by Hay (1902); it was reranked as Antilope (Naemorhedus) by Palmer (1904); it was corrected as Naemorhaedus by Carroll (1988).

It was assigned to Antilopinae by Hay (1902); to Antilope by Palmer (1904); to Bovidae by Carroll (1988); to Naemorhedini by Grubb (2001); to Caprinae by Hodgson (1841) and Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008); and to Caprini by Calamari (2021).
