Taxonomy
Cardita avicularia was named by Lamarck (1805). It is not extant. Its type locality is Field near Grignon (Lamarck collection), which is in a Lutetian open shallow subtidal sandstone in France.
It was synonymized subjectively with Cardium lithocardium by Lamarck (1819); it was recombined as Avicularium avicularium by Gray (1853); it was recombined as Avicularium aviculare by Schneider (1998), Harzhauser et al. (2008).
