Taxonomy
Cardium carinatum was named by Bronn (1831). It is not extant. Its type locality is Castelgomberto, eastern Lessini Mountains, which is in a Rupelian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Castelgomberto Formation of Italy.
It was recombined as Lithocardium carinatum by Cossmann (1921); it was recombined as Avicularium carinatum by Harzhauser et al. (2008).
