Taxonomy
Urochela melaina was named by Zhang (1989). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Shanwang, Linqu County, collection 79/80 (Beijing Museum), which is in a Burdigalian lacustrine - large mudstone in the Shanwang Formation of China.
It was recombined as Urochela (Urochela) melaina by Souma et al. (2024).
