Taxonomy
Torynobelodon barnumbrowni was named by Barbour (1931). It is not extant. Its type locality is Platybelodon Quarry, which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Ash Hollow Formation of Nebraska.

It was recombined as Platybelodon barnumbrowni by Barbour (1932), Gregory (1945), Voorhies and Brown (1993), Shoshani and Tassy (1996) and Lambert and Shoshani (1998).
