Taxonomy
Taxidea nevadensis was named by Butterworth (1916). Its type locality is Thousand Creek Formation, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Thousand Creek Formation of Nevada.

It was recombined as Pliotaxidea nevadensis by Hall (1944), Cook and Macdonald (1962), Dalquest (1969), Wagner (1976) and Harrison (1983).
