Pogonodon platycopis
Taxonomy
Hoplophoneus platycopis was named by Cope (1879). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is John Day Units E and F, which is in a Geringian terrestrial horizon in the John Day Formation of Oregon. It is the type species of Pogonodon.
It was recombined as Dinictis platycopis by Adams (1896), Macdonald (1970); it was recombined as Deinictis platycopis by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Nimravus platycopis by Matthew (1910), Fremd (1994); it was recombined as Pogonodon platycopis by Cope (1880), Merriam (1906), Thorpe (1920), Eaton (1922), Bryant (1996), Barrett (2016).
