Taxonomy
Platycalymene eire was named by Lamont (1949). Its type specimen is Lamont Collection No. 36, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Newtown Glen, which is in a Sandbian marine limestone in the Tramore Formation of Ireland.
