Thamnopora was named by Steininger (1831) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Fras-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pachyporidae by Murray (1985); to Pachyporinae by May (1993); and to Tabulata by Sepkoski (2002).
