Aphaenogaster khomychi was named by Radchenko (2025). Its type specimen is SIZK KH-F-661, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Rovno amber (Khomych SIZK collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Ukraine.
