Lithostrotion oblongum was named by Fleming (1828). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Isastrea oblonga by Fleming (1851), de Fromentel (1856); it was recombined as Isastraea oblonga by Milne-Edwards (1857), de Fromentel (1861); it was recombined as Pseudodiplocoenia oblonga by Roniewicz (1970).
