Taxonomy
Calamophyllia simplex was named by d'Orbigny (1850). Its type specimen is syntypes MNHN-F-A09370 to A09375, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Rhabdophyllia simplex by Milne-Edwards (1857).
