Taxonomy
Sphacorhysis burntforkensis was named by Gunnell (1995). Its type specimen is UM 30966, a mandible (partial left dentary with alveoli for i1-p3, and p4-m3 intact), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UM BRW-264 (Bridger D), which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Sphacorhysis.
