Taxonomy
Tetonius matthewi was named by Bown and Rose (1987). Its type specimen is CM 12190, a mandible (left dentary with nearly complete dentition), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Elk Creek (180 m), which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in the Willwood Formation of Wyoming.
