Aesculus hickeyi was named by Manchester (2001) [Fig. 1A (Manchester, 2001) from Farmers Butte, North Dakota (UF locality 18744). Paratypes. Leaves with attached leaflets: DMNH 15272, 15273 (DMNH locality 602: Killpecker Creek, Wyo.), NDGS 2000-1, DMNH 22968, UF 33143-32145 (DMNH locality 18134: Trenton Hill, N.Dak.); UF 30617, 31060, 31061 (UF locality 18744: Farmers Butte, N.Dak.); 31057 (locality 15779: Little Bitter Creek, Wyo.), UF 30580 (UF locality 15722: Almont, N.Dak.). USNM 516607 (locality 14174: Foster Mine, Wyo.). Fruit valves: UF 13258 (locality 18126: Killpecker Creek, Wyo.); UF 31054, 31055 (locality 18134: Trenton Hill, N.Dak.); UF 31058, 31059 (locality 15779: Little Bitter Creek, Wyo.). ]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is Holotype: UF locality 18744-30618, a leaf. Its type locality is UF locality 18744, which is in the Paleocene of mudstone North Dakota.
